According to the Encyclopedia of Brighton, the houses in Ditchling Rise were built in the 1870s. My wife's great-great-grandparents lived in this one at the top of the road from sometime in the 1880s until their deaths. Coincidentally, my wife and I lived in a flat in a house towards the bottom of the hill when we were first married.
